My life and creative endeavors, including writing and podcasting, have all revolved around teaching the Bible.
I have my Undergraduate degree in Bible and Master’s degree in Ministry, so it makes sense.
But another old passion has emerged lately, and I’m exploring a creative side of it. That passion is fishing. More specifically fishing in creeks with my boys.
My love for fishing began as a child with my grandpa but sparked to new heights fifteen years ago or so, when I lived in Michigan. A man who attended my church introduced me to creek fishing and smallmouth bass!
I’ve never gone all in on fishing, but in every season of my life, someone who enjoyed fishing has invited me to go and kept the spark alive.
A year ago my boys decided they wanted to start fishing. I wanted them to find success early, and I remembered my love for fishing creeks in Michigan, so we made plans and went….and went…and went!
The boys found that same spark I found as a boy.
The next thing I knew, I was buying poles, watching YouTube videos, and, after being gifted a GoPro, making our own YouTube videos.
While I’m an amature at making these videos, I’m having a blast! This internal desire to create and external desire to fish have come together.
That’s what brings me to this Substack. I also enjoy writing about special moments. Not "How To” blog posts, just writing about moments that touch or even challenge me.
These fishing trips are more than the fishing. What I can’t get enough of is the bond fishing is forming with my boys.
A bond I don’t want to forget.
So, how is this substack for you?
Well, that’s where I’m bad at this creative stuff.
I don’t know.
I’m not a professional fisherman or writer, so this isn’t an instructional substack, but I guess, what I do hope to accomplish is to inspire you to make memories.
I’m sure you will still see some Bible principles sprinkled in because before fishing and family is my faith, but I’m excited to see what this page could become.
If you want to read more about Christian life, make sure to check out my website.
But here, I will see what happens when you combine a budding interest in writing with a budding interest in fishing with the theme of faith and family behind it all.
Here goes nothing.
